Rolled Ice Cream Makes Its Way to Worcester

Tastetea Rolls is days away from opening

With a solid footing in Boston, Thai-style rolled ice cream now heads west. A new ice cream and bubble tea shop called Tastetea Rolls is getting ready to open its doors at 423 Park Ave., just north of Clark University in Worcester.

The new shop has a koala for a mascot and has been previewing its rolled ice cream flavors on Instagram, including a Cookie Monster version that comes with crushed cookies, whipped cream, and hot fudge.

Rolled ice cream has grown in popularity throughout the Northeast, predominantly in New York, due in large part to the visually fun process used to prepare the rolls. The first dedicated rolled ice cream shop in Boston proper, Hi B3ear, opened in Allston last fall, with New York-based Juicy Spot Cafe following suit with a Chinatown location in March, and Next Door Cafe opening a month later in Allston. The first to open in Massachusetts, however, was a kiosk called Frollz, which debuted in January 2016 in Saugus’ Square One Mall.

Tastetea Rolls will be located down the street from another spot for frozen treats: Yoway Cafe & Frozen Yogurt. The target opening date is July 22, with hours from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., per posts on Instagram.
